  • Radiance (Infinity Box No. 6) by Matt Elson is the sixth of thirty-five Infinity Boxes and part of the Awakened Vision Series. Radiance is a two-person experience with two distinctly different views; from the hub looking outward and the wheel facing inward. Each offers their own unique perspectives and insights.

  • Radiance is the box of life and death; Order on one side and Chaos on the other. The side of Order (the hub side) is at the center of the Sun, where it is radiant. The side of Chaos (the wheel side), represents the stars and coldness.

If you look at the floor or the ceiling you'll notice the shape of a coffin with the feet of the coffin at the Sun and the head in the stars.

The story of Radiance is rooted in the 700-verse scripture, the Bhagavad Gita, at the moment in which the Hindu god Rama, incarnated as the charioteer to King Arjana, reveals himself to the king in all of his aspects before the two enter into battle. In this moment, Arjana realizes the necessity of a battle he doesn't want to fight between relatives and friends, and his role in ending the conflict through battle, as Rama assures him that death is an illusion and each life would be reincarnated.

  • Matt Elson is an artist currently exploring the concepts of consciousness, perception and beauty. The Infinity Boxes are an investigation of cognitive dissonance and social interaction. Early in his career he helped pioneer the field of computer graphics at Symbolics Inc, which evolved out of the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab. He was DreamWorks Animation's artistic liaison when the studio started and was integral in helping Walt Disney Feature Animation make the switch from hand drawn animation to computer graphics. Elson was trained as a painter at Pratt Institute, received his Master Degree in Communications from the New York Institute of Technology and is a graduate of the UCLA Anderson Executive Program.
