  • Sweet Spot is an immersive installation made of 19 miles of multicolor nylon string. It was created by Indianapolis-based artists Shawn Causey and Mark Daniell.

Visitors activate the experience by moving through; every new perspective reveals color harmonies. As visitors engage with the artwork and compare these perspectives, they find their preferred color relationships. The installation brings awareness to the act of seeing and looking.

Sweet Spot has a double meaning: Causey and Daniell hope that you can find a space and combination of colors that speaks to you, and also a calm and meditative headspace as you get lost in the various color combinations.

To view this artwork, the artists recommend cupping one eye, closing the other, and staring straight ahead at the black curtain. Try swaying your body from side to side to get a flickering effect.

  • The artwork is composed of 19 miles of nylon string, strung 12 feet high. There are 24 colors of string. The installation is presented against a black curtain to create a contrasting visual frame for the strings.

The piece took Causey, Daniell and 84 volunteers about 1,000 hours to make from start to finish.

Shawn and Mark designed each pocket of strings to have a unique color composition. They selected swatches of string to do so, creating small-scale color combinations which were translated into the large-scale installation design.

  • Shawn Causey and Mark Daniell are both natives of Indianapolis. Color theory is the basis of their artwork. They combine color rhythms and patterns into three-dimensional installations.
